SUPEREUSKADI es un ensayo fotográfico que transita por un territorio mítico en el que todo —cultura, industria, sociedad y política— gira, como una gran esfera de piedra, en torno a su identidad e idiosincrasia. Envueltos por un bucle de personajes, situaciones, dogmas, paisajes y clichés, viajamos hacia adelante o hacia atrás a través de la mirada del fotógrafo alicantino Vicente Paredes, al que el rock radikal atrajo hasta el País Vasco hace más de treinta años y que ha experimentado boquiabierto la fricción entre lo sustantivo y lo adjetivo, entre la realidad y el mito de SUPEREUSKADI.

VICENTE PAREDES (Orihuela, 1972)se formó en la Universidad del País Vasco y en el Westminster College de Londres. Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en numerosas sedes nacionales e internacionales. Ha publicado hasta la fecha dos libros: Furtivos (Fiesta Ediciones/RM, 2012) y Pony Congo (This Book is True, 2015), premiado entre los Best Books of the Year in Kassel Fotobook Festival, 2016. Imparte clases en el CFC, Centro de Fotografía Contemporánea. Vive en Bilbao.

SUPEREUSKADI saiakera fotografikoak ibilbide bat egiten du lurralde mitiko batetik, non denak —kulturak, industriak, gizarteak eta politikak— bira egiten duen, harrizko esfera handi baten gisa, bere nortasunaren eta idiosinkrasiaren inguruan. Pertsonaiez, egoerez, dogmez, paisaiez eta klixez osatutako begizta batez inguratuta, aurrera edo atzera bidaiatzen dugu, Alacanteko Vicente Paredes argazkilariaren begiradaren bidez. Rock erradikalak duela hogeita hamar urte baino gehiago erakarri zuen Euskal Herrira, eta aho zabalik bizi izan du substantiboaren eta adjektiboaren, errealitatearen eta SUPEREUSKADIren mitoaren arteko tirabira.

VICENTE PAREDES (Orihuela, 1972). UPV/EHUn eta Londresko Westminster College-n ikasi zuen. Irakaskuntza-jarduera bizia egiten du Bilboko Argazkigintza Garaikideko Zentroan (CFC). Bere argazki-lana estatuko eta nazioarteko hainbat egoitzatan egon da erakusgai. Orain arte beste bi liburu argitaratu ditu: Furtivos (2012) eta Pony Congo (2015), 2016ko Kassel Photobook Festival-en saritua Best Books of the Year-en artean.

SUPEREUSKADI is a photographic essay of the Basque Country, charting a fabled land where everything — culture, industry, society and politics — revolves, like a great stone sphere, around the region’s own identity and idiosyncrasy. Amid a profusion of characters, situations, dogmas, landscapes and clichés, we travel back and forth via the gaze of Alicante photographer Vicente Paredes. He was drawn to the Basque Country by the radikal rock scene over thirty years ago, and he has since been awestruck by what he has witnessed, namely the friction between the essential and the extraordinary, between the reality and the myth of all things SUPEREUSKADI.

VICENTE PAREDES (Orihuela, 1972) studied at the University of the Basque Country and Westminster College, London. He has taught extensively at the CFC, Bilbao’s Contemporary Photography Centre, and his own photographic work has been exhibited in numerous spaces, both in Spain and internationally. He has released, to date, two other books: Furtivos (2012) and Pony Congo (2015), the latter of which was named one of the Best Books of the Year at the 2016 Kassel Photobook Festival.
